is the state’s new website that presents parents and
students with all the information needed for higher
education in Georgia.
To receive financial aid such as the
HOPE Scholarship or Pell Grant, students and their parents
will need to fill out the FAFSA which can be accessed
through
www.FAFSA.ed.gov.

It is a
privilege to be the Guidance Counselor here at Heirway
Christian Academy. God has blessed us with a wonderful
group of students and called us to assist each of them in
becoming who God has called them to be.
Our
first step in that assistance is making sure that all of our
students obtain a college preparatory diploma. (See
quick facts for specific coursework.)
As you can
see from the coursework, the road to high school graduation
begins long before the senior year. It is vitally important
that students realize that their transcripts begin with the
first semester of 9th grade. Planning ahead and
using the many tools available for success will ensure that
all doors are open to students upon graduation.
Our next
step is to educate students and parents about the many
resources that are available to them as they complete this
portion of their academic pathway. We are blessed here
in Georgia with many opportunities to encourage students to
pursue education beyond high school. Some of those
resources are listed below.
1.
The HOPE
scholarship is offered to Georgia graduates who have a 3.0
GPA in core classes. All core classes taken in high school
count toward HOPE calculations. At this time HOPE pays
tuition at state schools and $3000 toward private schools in
Georgia.
2.
The HOPE grant is
a tuition grant for students in technical school programs
that lead to certificates or diplomas. It covers tuition in
these programs.

GAcollege411 (www.GAcollege411.org)
is a website for Georgians which offers many features to
make higher education more accessible to Georgia
students. It contains a variety of options such
as career/major choice help, test prep for college
entrance testing, financial aid information, college
application links and more. Students can create an
account in middle school and begin to build a resume
that will be readily available when they begin applying
to colleges in their junior and senior years.
GAcollege411 provides students with direct links for the
SAT, ACT, and FAFSA (Free Application for Federal
Student Aid).
-
The SAT link is through the College Board (www.collegeboard.com).
Students can apply to take the SAT. Our students
can also access the official SAT prep course at no
cost because we are an accredited high school in
Georgia. (If you have lost your information sheet
concerning this course, please contact me for
information concerning this course—how to register
and password.)
-
Students can apply to take the ACT from GAcollege411
as well through
www.actstudent.org.
-
To
receive financial aid such as the HOPE Scholarship or
Pell Grant, students and their parents will need to fill
out the FAFSA which can be accessed through

HEIRWAY
ALUMNI ARE GOING PLACES!!!
As a parent
of a student at Heirway, you may find yourself wondering
what comes next. Once a student graduates, what are their
options?
The options
available to Heirway alumni are as varied as the plans that
God has for each of them. While students take a college
prep track in high school, we recognize that talents,
gifting, and interests may take them in other directions.
Our alumni’s choices illustrate the diverse paths that may
be pursued with an Heirway education.
Our
graduates have been accepted at various colleges and
universities. Some examples are:
Berry College
Columbus State University
Georgia Baptist College of
Nursing
Georgia Highlands College
Georgia Southern University
Georgia State University
Georgia Tech
Gordon College
Kennesaw State University
LaGrange College
Lee University
Mercer University
Middle Georgia College
North Georgia College
Savannah State University
Shorter College
Southern Polytechnic University
University of West Georgia
Young Harris College
Some
students have opted for a technology/career path. These
students have obtained or are working on degrees in various
arenas such as: entertainment technology, massage therapy,
radiology technology, graphic arts, and emergency medical
technology. Some of their schools of attendance are:
Atlanta Art Institute
Chattahoochee Technical College
Georgia Medical Institute
West Central Technical College
We have
alumni who have entered various branches of the military and
others who have successfully completed corporate management
training programs. We have former students who, upon
completion of their course of study, are now engaged in
various careers such as education, nursing, and business.
As you can
see, the options available to our students are not limited.
They graduate from Heirway secure in the promise of Jeremiah
29:11 and have only to seek to fulfill the plans that God
has made for them.
